The pop-up Museum of Youth Culture at 154 Shaftesbury Avenues is now closed.

We're excited to be taking over a new premises in the heart of London’s West End, transforming its two floors into a multi-media exhibition space and Christmas shop featuring our famous Subculture Bookshop - all dedicated to the incredible creativity of British youth culture.

A multi-purposed event space, the ever changing pop-up is programmed to host subcultural talks, live music, films, a photographic exhibition, gallery and entertainment area bringing the archival content to life with special cutting edge guests and speakers who are immersed in the scene and will be taking over the gallery.

Tuesday December 14th, 6-9pm: Aiyush Pachnanda B2B Book Launch

B2B chronicles Aiyush's work documenting Protests during the National Lockdown and the re-opening of Clubs post-Lockdown. He draws parallels between the energy of the crowds coming together for a common purpose, in the midst of uncertain times. He joins the Museum of Youth Culture to launch of this new book and will be signing copies on the night.

Thursday December 16th, 6-9pm: Derek Ridgers Talk & Book Signing

Derek Ridgers’ extensive archive chronicles youth and subculture movements over the last 5+ decades, photographing some of Britain’s most (in)famous teens past and present. He joins the Museum of Youth Culture for a talk and book signing of his work published by Carpet Bombing Culture.

Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th, 12-7pm: Real Fake Live Painting

Coming off the back of a limited edition poster collaboration with subculture photographer Gavin Watson, Trav behind satirical brand Real Fake will be taking over our Shaftesbury Museum for a full weekend live painting session. Pop down to see a master at work and take a respite from the madness of Christmas shopping.

An evening of art and live music at the Museum of Youth Culture, featuring emerging London artists Time, Connie Swift, Drowsy, Flora Scott, Steve Segull, Ricky Lee and Rilla127.

Thursday February 10th, 6-10pm: Drumz of the South Book Launch & Exhibition

Reaching her Kickstarter target at the end of 2021, the Museum of Youth Culture is proud to host the book launch for Drumz of the South, a new photo book by Georgina Cook documenting the emergence of Dubstep in London.

Celebrating the launch of the G-SHOCK x Museum of Youth Culture limited edition collaboration, Grown up in G-SHOCK delves into the history of this iconic brand, from the subcultures to the celebrities.

Friday March 4th: Dreaming in Yellow Book Launch and Exhibition x Velocity Press

Written by Harry Harrison, one of DiY’s founding members, Dreaming in Yellow traces their origins back to early formative experiences, describing in detail the seminal clubs, parties, festivals and records that forged the collective. Join Velocity Press and the Museum of Youth Culture for the book launch, featuring DJs and Talks.

Tuesday March 15th: Ealing Rises Up Screening x National Portrait Gallery

Developed in collaboration with Citizen Researchers from the borough of Ealing, the National Portrait Gallery and Ealing Local History Centre, this set of short films tells a selection of stories from Ealing's activist past. Museum of Youth Culture supported this project through archival material and oral history training and is hosting this event in their new central London venue.

Saturday March 12th - March 20th: Punk Art Show UK Exhibition

Annual art exhibition featuring original artwork from various punk musicians from 1977 scene and beyond. With a rambunctious opening party with special guests and surprise performances. Plus, talks throughout the week exploring the history and designs that created of genre that still influences music, fashion, and self-expression.

The exhibition is on until Sunday March 20th, featuring artwork by musicians from Killing Joke, UK Subs, The Adverts, Chelsea, The Members, Johnny Thunders, Vibrators and more.

Wednesday March 16th: (Still) Annoying the Neighbours -The Story Of The Members

Join in the conversation about The Members with JC Carroll and acclaimed Joe Strummer Biographer, music journalist Chris Salewicz. This is the story of a bank clerk who writes a classic punk anthem at the age of 22. A song that will take him and his band round the planet, a song that will turn his world upside down.

Thursday March 17th: Fear & Loathing at the ROXY

Jane Palm-Gold - artist, curator and historian gives an in-depth presentation about infamous punk club, The Roxy 1976–78. Including images and stories from this legendary space which gave a platform for Punk bands to perform, the location of the former club in Seven Dials is marked with a plaque and is a stones throw away from the Museum of Youth Culture’s current location.

Wednesday March 23th: Tristan O'Neill and Brian Belle-Fortune in Conversation

On the back of the Museum of Youth Culture's work digitising Tristan O'Neill's extensive archive documenting the 90s Rave scene, he sits down with All Crews author Brian Belle-Fortune to discuss the emergence of Jungle and other Rave scenes post-Second Summer of Love.

Friday March 25th: WEIRDO Anniversary Celebration and Exhibition

Celebrating their second anniversary, WEIRDO are taking over the basement gallery with a panel discussion and exhibition. WEIRDO is a zine and platform documenting the experiences and perspectives of South Asian people in the alternative scene.
